We saw an influx of reports Wednesday morning stating that Office for iOS and Android was confirmed by Microsoft product manager Petr Bobek. Bobek reportedly made the statement during a press event in the Czech Republic when he told Czech site IHNED that native apps would be available beginning in March 2013.
According to The Verge, Microsoft Czech Republic team confirmed in a press release that this was, in fact, the case. ?In addition to Windows, Office will be also available on other operating systems, Windows Phone, Windows RT, Mac OS, Android, iOS and Symbian,? Microsoft noted.
The news wasn't exactly shocking, as rumors of a native app for iPad have been ciruclating for, well, for forever now. The Office app would provide iOS users access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents straight from their iPhones and iPads.
It's pretty exciting stuff ? or, at least it was exciting until Microsoft released this brief statement:??The information shared by our Czech subsidiary is not accurate. We do not have anything further to share at this time."
