December saw the end and beginning of two great Miss West Africa queens. The victory that ignited a hall full of various nationalities from Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and more brought you Vanny Reis, the winner of Miss West Africa Cape Verde, now crowned Miss West Africa International 2011. The judges decision was synonymous with the audience and left a crowd roaring her name right before her crowning. 1st runners up was the home queen Yassin Jagne, also the current title holder Miss West Africa Gambia 2011, and 2nd runners up was Stella Bangura, from Sierra Leone.
Vanny Reis is not only the first Cape Verdean to carry the Miss West Africa International crown, but she is also the first non Sierra Leoneon to do so, completing a third part of the trilogy started off by Amina Kamara, the first ever Miss West Africa queen of 2008, and then Shireen Benjamin of 2009/10, both from Sierra Leone. Shireen carried the crown for two years, as during her reign a decision was made by the organisers to hold a regional pageant in every country, which set off an extension in her term as queen.
Vanny Reis, was born on the 13th of October 1985, a native Cape Verdean and also a professional model in Cape Verde. Not only this, but she is a fitness instructor and owns her own magazine. During the stay of the queens in Gambia, she got on very well with all the queens and supported where ever she could. Vanny who was the 1st runners up in Miss Cape Verde now believes everything happens for a reason as she is now the international title holder for Miss West Africa. She is very passionate about health and medical issues especially relating to Africa and is also looking forward to using her title in the field of entertainment and fashion in which the organisers vow to give her great support.
"Vanny Reis is very beautiful, the best way to describe her is heaven sent" says founder of Miss West Africa, Nana Tamakloe "Despite all the difficulties in creating the Miss West Africa event, the most important thing is there are no regrets with the selected queen, and that the mission was accomplished on the night of 18th December 2011. Vanny has not only done Cape Verde proud, but she has impressed the whole of West Africa, her victory should be seen as a success not only for West Africa but for Africa as a whole".
The Miss West Africa team are overwhelmed with the compliments they have received in regards to their new winner and will ensure she remains in the public light. Her victory also prompted the organisation to create a Portuguese version of the website, which can be seen at www.missafricaocidental.com.
The organisation will now return to having an event take place in each of the selected countries. Aside from the previous 24 Miss West Africa competitions that have taken place, the organisation has also assured another potential 6 countries. Miss West Africa International 2011 was organised by Sass Visa Agency and Brain Solutions Concept Ltd with support from Miss West Africa Ltd. Miss West Africa Ltd will soon be updating the public on the next regional Miss West Africa events and where the next international will be held.
