Add a Headlamp to a Winter Hat [DIY]

Add a Headlamp to a Winter HatAs Fall turns into Winter temperatures drop and sunset comes more quickly. Prepare for both dark and cold by adding a headlamp to your winter hat. Assuming you already have a hat to use this project will only require a soldering iron, a needle and thread, and $5-10 of electronics components.

Instructables user rbateman lives in Fairbanks, AK where there are only 6 hours of sunlight during winter and many people routinely use headlamps when outdoors. He routinely forgets his headlamp but always remembers his hat and figured he should combine the two.

To add a headlamp to your own hat, cut a 3" opening on the bottom edge of the front of the hat. Assemble the electronic components into a lamp as per the instructions at Instructables. Finally, insert the electronics into the opening you cut in the hat, make a tiny hole to feed the LED bulb through, and once you're happy with the fit and function sew up the opening. See the link below for full instructions, parts list, and more photos.

The battery won't last forever, but since it's only powering one LED you won't have to replace it very often unless you forget to switch it off when not in use.
